Rockford Aviators News Release
JOLIET, IL - The brooms came out of the closet for the first time since 2012 as the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, completed the sweep against the Joliet Slammers, winning 5-1 tonight.
The Aviators jumped on the board early with a three-run third inning. Michael Hur came in to score on an error by Slammer shortstop Max Casper for the first run of the game. Dusty Robinson then doubled to right-center field and allowed Brian Bistagne to score giving the Aviators a 2-0 lead. Tanner Witt then followed by crossing the plate on a RBI sacrifice fly by Kenny Bryant to take a 3-0 lead.
Ryan Zimmerman earned his sixth win in his last seven starts with another strong performance on the mound. He pitched seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out seven batters.
The only Slammers run of the game came on a sacrifice fly by JD Dorgan that scored Adam Giacalone to make the score 3-1 Aviators after five innings.
Things got away from the Slammers in the top of the eighth inning as the Aviators scored two more runs; one on an error and the other on a passed ball. Bryant came in to score when Ryan Breen hit a bouncer to second that was missed by Adrian English and Breen, himself, came around to score on a passed ball to give the Aviators a 5-1 victory.
With the win, the Aviators clinched their first series sweep since changing the team name and the first for the franchise since the Riverhawks took a three game series from the Road Warriors from August 28-30, 2012.
The Aviators will be back in action tomorrow night at Aviators Stadium for the first of a three-game series with the Evansville Otters who are currently in contention for a Frontier League East Division title.
