Otters Four Run Eighth Inning Propels Evansville to a 5-1 Win

(EVANSVILLE, IN) --- A four run eighth inning snapped a late tie and propelled Evansville to a 5-1 victory against the Lake Erie Crushers.

b0 There was a season-high 6,470 fans in attendance as the Otters finished out a three game homestand.

Evansville and Lake Erie were even at one run apeice early in the game 1-1 but the contest remained tied into the bottom of the eighth inning.

First baseman Nick Schwaner gave Evansville the lead with an RBI bouncing single to center field. Following a wild pitch, first baseman Andrew Kuhn then roped an RBI double out to right field, scoring another pair of runs and pushing Evansville ahead 5-1.

Right-hander Eric Massingham then entered the game in the ninth and retired the Crushers in order.

Evansville improves to 7-11 with the win as Lake Erie also has the same record after the loss.

Both starters did not factor in to the decision. Lefty Garrett Bullock allowed just one run over six innings for Evansville as right-hander Tyler Longfellow gave up the same amount of runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Reliever Adam Champion (1-1) earns the win, after throwing two scoreless innings in relief of Bullock. Lefty Chance Gilmore (0-2) receives the loss after allowing four earned runs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Evansville Otters will now head on a six game road trip beginning tomorrow night in Traverse City, Michigan. First pitch between the Otters and Beach Bums is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
