Slammers Return Home Monday for First Series against Rival Boomers

Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers took over Silver Cross Field in 2011 and immediately started the process of rebuilding the tradition of professional baseball in Joliet as they won the Frontier League title.

The Schaumburg Boomers took over their stadium last year and in 2012 they are working to rebuild the tradition of professional baseball in Schaumburg.

On Monday the two teams will meet for the first time in the regular season. Before play began on Friday Joliet and Schaumburg had the exact same record of 10-7, tied for third in the West Division.

The Slammers and Boomers both utilize ATI Physical Therapy as their official athletic trainer and Levy Restaurants as their Food & Beverage Manager. Each team used the same logo designer as well. Even more interestingly, the teams' stadiums were designed by the same architect.

"Our goal as a front office is to be the best at everything," Slammers Director of Marketing and Public Relations Sarah H. Eichenberger said. "A new team arriving so close to where we entertain fans on a nightly basis has really stoked our competitive fire. With Schaumburg in town starting Monday, the entertainment for fans at our ballpark is going to be taken to another level. We look forward to competing with them on and off the field. This rivalry is already exciting and we haven't even played a real game against them yet."

In the exhibition season, the teams squared off three times, twice in Schaumburg and once in Joliet. The Slammers won all three games.

The budding rivalry between the two teams is just one of the reasons to come to Silver Cross Field next week.

All three games are 7:05 p.m. starts and for this series only fans can purchase hot dogs and soft drinks for only $1 each. After each game, all kids get to run the bases!

Monday is the first "Memorable Monday Presented by Me-TV " of the season. The Slammers will entertain fans all night long with a trip down memory lane of classic TV show clips.

Tuesday is "Superhero Night" at Silver Cross Field. Some special surprises are planned for the evening. For clues, fans can head on over to the Slammers' Facebook page . It's also the first "Spikes ' Super Students" reading club night presented by Aurelio 's Pizza of the season.

Wednesday is a "Win It" Wednesday as the Slammers will be giving out prizes all night long. Plus, if the Slammers win, every fan in attendance wins a free ticket to the next Wednesday home game. It's also another "Spikes ' Super Students" reading club night presented by Aurelio 's Pizza.

Tickets for the series are available at the Slammers Box Office, by calling 815-722-2287 or by going here .

The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 20th season in 2012. For more information about the Frontier League visit www.frontierleague.com.
