Boomers Edge Grizzlies on Walk-off Hit

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Mike Valadez drove in Jereme Milons on a single in the ninth inning and the Schaumburg Boomers walked off against the Gateway Grizzlies 5-4 Thursday night at Boomers Stadium. The loss was the fifth in a row for Gateway and gave Schaumburg the series sweep.

Gateway (7-11) fought back from down 4-2 to tie the game in the ninth. The Grizzlies scored two runs on only one hit. Jon Myers led off the ninth with a walk, Vladimir Frias singled and both runners moved up a base on a Case Rigby walk. After Myers scored on a wild pitch, Richie Jimenez Jr. brought home the game-tying run on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Gateway led 2-0 until Schaumburg (11-7) scored one in the sixth and three more in the seventh, which included back-to-back solo home runs by Milons and Chad Mozingo.

Jonathan Gonzalez got the start for the Grizzlies and gave up two earned runs in six innings. Richard Barrett (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing the game-winning hit to Valadez in the ninth inning.

Frias paced the Grizzlies offense with a 2-for-4 night.

The Grizzlies head to Avon, OH for a three-game series with the Lake Erie Crushers that begins Friday night. Fostoria, OH native Alex Kaminsky (3-0) makes the start for the Grizzlies in game one of the series. First pitch is set for 7:05 EST.
