Miners Lose to Washington

Washington, PA - The Southern Illinois Miners lose the series finale to the Washington Wild Things 6-3 and snap their five game winning streak.

The Miners struck first in the top of the third off Wild Things starter Eric Blackwell as Jake Kaase hit a two out double to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. The Wild Things quickly answered in the bottom of the third off Miners starter Shawn Gilblair as they scored two runs with two outs. Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Wild Things scored two more runs on a two out home run by catcher Joel Carranza to give the Wild Things a 4-1 lead.

The Wild Things scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give themselves a 5-1 lead. Miners starter Shawn Gilblair allowed five runs through six innings, gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out two. The Wild Things got another run in the bottom of the seventh with a wild pitch by Miners reliever Anthony Collazo, which gave Washington a 6-1 lead.

The Miners scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning as Jake Kaase hit a two run home run off Wild things reliever Steven Grife to bring the Miners within three. That wouldn't be enough as the Wild Things defeated the Miners 6-3. The Miners fall to 12-6 on the 2012 season.

The Miners will be in Rockford tomorrow night for a three game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. RHP Thomas Campbell will be on the mound (0-2). The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show begins at 6:45 pm on the Miners Radio Network.
