LONDON, Ontario - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, were held without a baserunner for the first five and two-thirds innings and held to one hit in a loss on Thursday night to the London Rippers 7-0 at Labatt Memorial Park.

A CornBelters error with two outs in the first inning proved costly, as the Rippers scored five unearned runs on two-run homers from David Christensen and J.C. Paquin and an RBI double from Stephen Cardullo Jr.

The Rippers added a pair of runs in the fourth inning, again after two were out, as RBI hits from Tony Delmonico and Joash Brodin increased the London lead to 7-0.

The CornBelters finally reached London starter Matt Schimpf with a walk to Jordan Stouffer with two outs in the sixth, followed by the first hit one batter later by Alvaro Ramirez.

Schimpf improves to 2-0 with the one-hit win, walking one and striking out two. Daniel Britt falls to 1-2 with the loss.

The CornBelters conclude their two-week road trip with a weekend series in Washington, Pa. against the Wild Things. Right-hander Tyler Lavigne (1-0, 3.05 ERA) is scheduled to start for the CornBelters on Friday. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. Central with a 5:50 pre-game on WJBC.com. The CornBelters finish the trip with games on Saturday and Sunday in suburban Pittsburgh, then return home to face the Evansville Otters on Monday to begin a six-game homestand.
