Orlando Defeats Kalamazoo 4-2

November 17, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Orlando, FL- Getting separation with a three-goal second period and a three-point night from Olivier Fortier (2 goals, 1 assist), the Orlando Solar Bears (7-5-2-1) defeated the Kalamazoo Wings (7-6-0-0) 4-2 at the Amway Center.

Power-plays guided scoring for both teams in the opening period. Orlando jumped ahead midway in the stanza with a man-advantage strike from Fortier (5th). Looking for a cross rink pass, Fortier's attempt caromed off of the skate of K-Wings defenseman Mitch Versteeg and slid past goaltender Joel Martin.

Tying the contest with two minutes remaining in the frame, Sam Ftorek (3rd) used a screen in front of John Curry to slap in a power-play equalizer from the blue line. Ftorek, who is on a six-game point streak, has earned all of his goals this season on the power-play.

The tide changed in the second period, as the Solar Bears netted three goals in an eight-minute span. Standing patient behind the net, Rob Mignardi led Mathew Sisca (5th) in the slot for the go-ahead marker.

Earning the eventual game-winning tally midway in the period while standing to the side of the net, Mignardi (5th) found a ricochet shot off the end wall for a power-play tally.

Fourtier (6th) put the game of reach later in the stanza with second goal of the night.

Kalamazoo capped off the game's scoring early in the third period with a redirected goal from Aaron Clarke (4th). Kory Karlander notched his 1,000th career point earning a secondary assist on the tally.
