Omaha Storm Chasers June 20th Game Notes

June 20, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

YESTERDAY'S SPLIT: In front of the second largest crowd of 2013 at 7,459 fans, the Storm Chasers split an afternoon doubleheader with the Isotopes with Brett Hayes saving the Storm Chasers from a rough day with a two-run homer in the sixth inning of the final game to win 2-1. In the first game of the day Albuquerque blew the game wide open with nine runs in the third frame, the most Omaha had given up in an inning this season, to win 11-3.

DUFFY RETURNS TO WERNER: Left-hander Danny Duffy is making his third MLB Rehab start with the Storm Chasers (and sixth MLB Rehab start overall in 2013), and tonight's start marks his first at Werner Park since July 14, 2011 vs New Orleans (his last PCL appearance before this season). Duffy started his career at Werner Park with a 16.1 inning scoreless streak over his first four home starts, and in five total starts (27.0 innings) he has allowed only six earned runs, striking out 33 and walking four.

MIDSEASON REPORT: Today marks the 72nd game of the year (not counting the June 8 suspension vs OKC) and Omaha will have 40 plus losses for only the third time in the last ten seasons at the midway point (2009: 27-45, 2006: 28-44) and a losing record for the first time since 2009 and the seventh time in the last ten years.

HAYES' HOT STREAK: Brett Hayes' two-run homer yesterday tied him with Max Ramirez for second most homers on the team with eight, and the catcher has reached base in 22 of his last 23 games. During that stretch starting on May 9, Hayes is batting .304 (24-for-79) to raise his average from a season-low .203 to .259 while also totaling four homers, 13 RBI, 11 extra-base hits and 10 runs scored.

NO DYS-ON AT HOME: MLB Rehabber Jarrod Dyson has not recorded a hit in his five games and 18 at-bats at home since he began his rehab on June 6 vs Oklahoma City (he does have one walk) and has scored one run. Last season in 11 games at Werner Park before his promotion, Dyson batted .392 (20-for-51) with 10 runs. Dyson was a career .296 hitter at Werner Park (61-for-206) over two years before this season.

WERNER WOES: The Storm Chasers were held to three or less runs for the 32nd and 33rd times this season yesterday (8-25 in those games), and in the last ten home games they have been held to less than three runs nine times (7-0 series finale vs Oklahoma City on June 9 the only exception). In those ten home games, the Chasers have put up 19 total runs (27 runs in the 11 home games in June).
