Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced today that former Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy has been added to the lineup of former Major League players who will be on hand for the Heroes Classic being played this Saturday, June 22 at Security Service Field. The 2009 National Manager of the Year joins Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers and World Series Champions Dave Henderson and Mike Timlin in the celebrity softball game that will benefit victims of the Black Forest Fire and recognize our local heroes.
Tracy managed the Rockies from 2009 to 2012 and took the team to the playoffs in his first season at the helm after taking over part way through the season. He guided the team to a 74-42 record the rest of the way and was named Manager of the Year for the National League. Prior to managing the Rockies, Tracy also skippered the Los Angeles Dodgers (2001-05) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2006-07). In his 11 seasons as a Major League manager he compiled a 856-880 record. As a player, Tracy played parts of two seasons with the Chicago Cubs as an outfielder from 1980-81 and hit .249 with three homers and fourteen RBIs in 87 games.
The game will be held at Security Service Field on Saturday, June 22 at 7:05 PM and will salute the brave men and women of the Colorado Springs and El Paso County Fire and Safety Departments who willingly fight everyday to keep our community safe and secure.
The night will culminate with a tremendous fireworks display following the game.
