Reno, Nev.-Mike Jacobs homered for the seventh time in the last seven games on Wednesday night, en route to an 11-5 Reno victory over the Fresno Grizzlies at Aces Ballpark.
The slugger hit a three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, contributing to a five-run frame for Reno.
The Aces had an 8-2 lead entering the eighth, when the Grizzlies touched up reliever Bryan Woodall for three runs. Closer Chaz Roe threw 1.1 perfect innings to end the game, including three strikeouts, and was credited with his third save.
At the plate for Reno, Chris Owings continued his impressive season with a 4-for-5 game, including two doubles, with three runs scored and three RBI. Jacobs went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI.
D-backs RHP J.J. Putz started the game for Reno, to begin his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment. He gave up one earned run on two hits in the first frame for the Aces. LHP Tyler Skaggs came on and threw 6.0 innings, giving up one run on six hits, while striking out eight. Skaggs earned his first home win of the season for his effort.
The series continues Thursday night at Aces Ballpark, as the Aces have the chance to secure their second series win of the season. RHP Zeke Spruill (3-3, 4.06 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Grizzlies will counter with LHP Mike Kickham (3-5, 5.20 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
