Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Grizzlies pitching coach Pat Rice has been named to the Pacific Coast League (PCL) All-Star coaching staff, Triple-A Baseball announced today. Rice and the PCL All-Stars will square off against the International League in the 2013 Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 17 at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada, home of the PCL's Reno Aces.

Rice, 49, is in his fifth season with the Grizzlies and sixth overall campaign with the San Francisco Giants organization. He spent the 2008 season with the Class A Advanced San Jose Giants. This season, Fresno pitchers rank second in the PCL in strikeouts (567). In 2012, 12 pitchers played for both the Grizzlies and World Series champion San Francisco Giants, including nine who started the season in Fresno.

Rice becomes the second straight Grizzlies coach to serve on the PCL All-Star coaching staff. Grizzlies hitting coach Russ Morman served in the same capacity with the All-Star team in 2012.

The PCL All-Stars will be managed by Reno Aces manager Brett Butler, who is in his fifth season at the helm of Reno. Butler led the Aces to the PCL Championship and Triple-A National Championship in 2012. Former Grizzlies slugger and current New Orleans Zephyrs hitting coach Damon Minor will also serve on PCL All-Star coaching staff. Minor is in his third season with the Zephyrs.

The International League will be managed by Dave Miley, manager of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The reigning IL Manager of the Year is joined by Tony Beasley of the Syracuse Chiefs and Joel Skinner of the Charlotte Knights.

The 26th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be broadcast live on MLB Network. First pitch is at 6:05 pm PST.
