Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - A three-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night for the Round Rock Express (41-33) as the E-Train fell to the Memphis Redbirds (36-38) by a final score of 9-4 at Dell Diamond.
The Redbirds put their foot on the gas pedal early, scoring nine runs over the first two innings. Express starter Scott Richmond was tagged for all nine runs as he lasted just 1.0 inning, failing to record an out in the second for his shortest outing of the season. Memphis used three homers, including two three-run shots, as a part of the offensive barrage through the first two frames. First baseman Brock Peterson clubbed a solo shot, while center fielder Oscar Taveras and designated hitter Chad Huffman slammed three-run round trippers to aid the Memphis offense.
The E-Train battled back, plating runs in the first and second innings on RBI singles from third baseman Mike Olt and catcher Eli Whiteside to chip away at the deficit.
In the third inning, Olt blasted his seventh long ball of the year when he took a 1-0 offering from Memphis starter Nick Additon over the center field wall for a two-run blast, pulling the Express within five at 9-4.
With Round Rock seeming to build momentum, Additon finished out the fourth and fifth innings with scoreless frames before being lifted in favor of the bullpen. Memphis' relievers stifled the Round Rock offense, holding the E-Train to just two hits over the final 4.0 innings.
The E-Train bullpen shined as well, allowing just two hits over eight innings and adding eight punch outs but the offense was never able to claw its way back.
Right fielder Jim Adduci and shortstop Yangervis Solarte each singled with one out in the eight but the next two batters flew out to end the threat.
With the game two victory, the Redbirds evened the series at one game apiece and snapped Round Rock's three-game winning streak. Richmond (2-2) suffered the loss, while Additon earned his fifth victory, improving to 5-2.
The Express continues its four-game set with the Redbirds tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Ryan Feierabend (4-2, 4.31 ERA) will be handed the ball for Round Rock. Thursday night will also be the Original Thirsty Thursday, presented by Firetrol Protection Systems at Dell Diamond featuring $1.00 sodas and discounted draft beers.
