Evansville Otters News Release
(AVON, OHIO) - The Evansville Otters (41-26) received two runs batted in each from Kolin Conner, Jeremy Nowak, and Phillip Wilson in a 7-3 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers on Monday night.
The win prevents the first sweep of the Otters this season and also moves Evansville within one game of first place in the Frontier League East Division.
Otters right-handed pitcher Preston Olson (6-3) threw his 10th quality start in 13 appearances for the win. He allowed just three runs (two earned) in 7.0 innings for his third consecutive victory.
Evansville was ahead early after a lead-off home run from outfielder John Schultz.
Lake Erie answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning only to see the Otters re-gain the lead in the second. Down 2-1, Evansville recorded three consecutive hits including a two-run double from Conner. Wilson added an RBI single later in the inning for the 4-1 advantage.
Trailing 4-3, Lake Erie attempted to tie the game in the fourth. After a lead-off single from Ryan Hutchison, catcher Kevin Franchetti popped up a sacrifice bunt and Olson retired the next two hitters to end the threat. Olson set down 12 of the final 13 batters he faced on the night.
Ahead by a run, Evansville received a two-run home run from Nowak in the sixth and another RBI single by Wilson in the ninth to complete the scoring.
Reliever Brandon Shimo threw 2.0 scoreless innings to earn his second career save and end the game.
