Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced that pitcher Troy Marks has been selected by the Frontier League as Pitcher of the Week, a weekly award chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation.
Right-hander Troy Marks, who signed with Washington as a free agent on July 23, has quickly built a name for himself within the Wild Things organization. In his three appearances on the mound, Marks has allowed just two runs and one walk while striking out 24 batters to accompany his 0.92 ERA. In his most recent outing, Marks threw six perfect innings against the Frontier Greys on August 2 and allowed just one run in his 7.1 inning performance.
Prior to joining Washington, Marks spent time with the Schaumburg Boomers and attended spring training in 2013 with the Philadelphia Phillies. As a college student, Marks pitched for both Fresno City College and the University of Nevada. In his junior season with the Nevada Wolfpack, Marks made nine starts (a team second best) and struck out 52 batters. Despite having a 2-6 record overall his junior year, Marks proved to be Nevada's most dominant arm, posting the ninth lowest ERA in the Western Athletic Conference, holding batters to their third lowest average at .243.
Although his stardom glistened at the University of Nevada, Marks's most successful collegiate season came during his sophomore campaign under manager Chad Thornhill at Fresno City College. In his seven games started, Marks posted a 5-0 record with a 1.93 ERA and 46 strikeouts.
The Wild Things will square off against the Schaumburg Boomers on Wednesday, August 6th at 8:05 p.m. EDT. Listen on the official radio provider of the Washington Wild Things WJPA 95.3 FM. The Wild Things currently lead the East at 43-26 are looking to capture their first postseason playoff berth since 2007.
