Joliet Slammers News Release
The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-were blown out by the Schaumburg Boomers 18-4 on Monday at Silver Cross Field.
Newly acquired starting pitcher Alex Kaminsky struggled early for the Slammers. The Boomers scored six runs in the 1st inning. Joe DePinto started it off with an RBI double. Tony Delmonico followed with an RBI single and later in the inning Michael Valadez launced a grand slam homer to left field. They added single runs in each of the next three innings before Kaminsky was lifted going into the 5th inning. Delmonico's long solo homer in the 4th was the highlight of those runs for Schaumburg.
In the meantime, Joliet scored single runs in 3 of the 1st four innings themselves against the Boomers' Danny Jimenez. Russell Moldenhauer doubled in a run in the 1st while Seth Granger's fielder's choice scored a run in the 2nd. Max Casper added a RBI double in the 4th to make the score 9-3 after four innings. Harry Marino came on for the Slammers at that point. He blanked the Boomers in the 5th but gave up three runs in the 6th to make the score 12-3. The big hit of that frame was a 2-run homer from Delmonico, his second of the day. Tyler Thicke replaced Marino with one out in the 6th and allowed a 2-run double to Valadez to make the score 14-3. Jordan Dean followed with a 2-run double of his own and it became 16-3. The Slammers picked up another run on a grounder from Chris Epps in the 6th to push the score to 16-4 going to the 7th inning. Schaumburg scored two more in the top of the 9th on a Mark Nelson single and the score became 18-4.
Before the bottom of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $500 to a lucky fan as part of their Amazing August promotion. Each home game in August will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to that lucky winner was $5000.
Joliet now has two days off before playing a doubleheader at Evansville on Thursday starting at 5:35pm. They play a single game there on Friday at 6:35pm.. The Slammers then return on Saturday to start another six-game home stand. Slammers action this summer is broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com.
