(Florence, KY) - The Florence Freedom (27-40) scored six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good in an 11-9 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums (27-42) Monday night at UC Health Stadium.

Florence fell behind 5-1 early in the game and the come-from-behind victory was their biggest of the season. Previously they had not come back from a deficit of more than three runs to win a game.

The Freedom took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Cole Miles walked to start the frame. He stole second and went to third on a ground-out. Then he came around to score on a Buddy Sosnoskie RBI grounder.

However the Beach Bums would take the lead right back top of the second as they scored five runs off Freedom starter Peter Gehle. With the bases loaded and one out, Scott Woodward singled in two runs to put the Beach Bums up 2-1. A RBI grounder from Chris Cowell made it 3-1 and a Greg Harisis extended the lead to 4-1. Then Jeff DeBlieux doubled home another run for Traverse City.

Down 5-1 the Freedom responded in the bottom of the second on an Adam Taylor solo home run, his second in as many games and his third of the season.

Florence remained down 5-2 until the fifth. With one out Miles drew another walk and stole second. Then with two away Sosnoskie singled him home. Sam Eberle was hit by a pitch and that was it for Traverse City starter Scott Vachon. New pitcher Rusty Shellhorn walked Rob Kelly and surrendered a RBI single to Taylor. Just like that the Freedom were only down 5-4.

But Cowell launched a two-run home run in the sixth inning off Gehle to chase him from the game and put the Beach Bums up 7-4.

The bottom of the sixth was disastrous for Traverse City as they committed four errors and the Freedom took the lead for good. Doug Joyce singled to start the frame and Zak Blair followed with a single of his own. A wild pitched moved both runners up 90 feet and a Miles single brought in Joyce for the first run of the frame. One out later Sosnoskie hit his second RBI grounder of the game to score Blair.

With the two away the Freedom still trailed by a score of 7-6. But Eberle drew a walk and Rob Kelly reached base on an error by second baseman Kevin Taylor. This came after Cowell, the catcher, dropped a Kelly foul pop-up that would have ended the inning. Miles scored on the Taylor error to tie the game at seven.

Adam Taylor followed with a RBI single to give Florence the lead. A wild throw to first by Kevin Taylor allowed Adam Taylor to advance to second. A two-base throwing error by Jose Vargas on a Preston Overbey grounder allowed two runs to score for the Freedom and extended their lead to 10-7.

The Beach Bums pulled to within two in the eighth inning on an Overbey throwing error. But the Freedom responded in the bottom of the eighth as Rob Kelly went yard for his team-leading eighth home run of the season. Ed Kohout gave up a home run to Vargas in the ninth. But he proceeded to strike out the side for his first professional save. Jorge Marban (3-4) tossed an inning and a third of scoreless ball for the win.

The Freedom are off on Tuesday before they head to O'Fallon, Missouri for a three-game series with the River City Rascals starting on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. eastern time as all-star Chuck Weaver (4-5, 2.25 ERA) takes the hill for Florence. All the action can be heard on http://www.allinbroadcasting.com/Florence.html.
