Ontario Reign News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (39-18-4-5), four-time ECHL Pacific Division Champions and proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, cruised to a 6-3 win over the Bakersfield Condors (24-35-3-5) in front of a crowd of 4,568 on Saturday night at Rabobank Arena, as Jussi Olkinuora picked up his 37th career victory with the Reign to pass Chris Carrozzi for most wins by a goaltender in club history.
Bakersfield got on the board first when Jonathan Lessard chased his own rebound in the slot and knocked the puck into the net past Olkinuora at 13:36.
Ontario quickly answered on the following shift, as Josh Brittain worked the puck back to Zach Bell at the left point, and the defender let a wrist shot fly through traffic that beat Kris Lazaruk at 14:03 for his second of the season, and first since Oct. 17.
Bell continued his strong play into the second, as he picked up his second of the evening with another wrist shot that beat Lazaruk at 6:34 to give the Reign their first lead of the night.
A little over a minute later, Maxim Kitsyn added another to Ontario's lead when made his way to the net from the right side and roofed a shot through Lazaruk at 7:59.
Further along in the frame, Judd Blackwater broke down the right side and shoveled a backhand shot into the net at 15:24.
The Reign closed out the second period scoring when Matt White redirected Nolan Julseth-White's shot from the right point past the blocker of Lazaruk at 16:46.
White picked up another goal in the third period, as he knocked Rocco Carzo's rebound underneath the pads of Lazaruk at 1:11, with Bell gaining the secondary assist.
The Condors attempted to rally but ultimately fell short in the final frame, as Connor Leen broke in with Nick Zappia on a two-on-one and buried one at 13:52, and Nick MacNeil added a power-play goal at 18:00. Bell also picked up the Gordie Howe hat trick when he dropped the gloves with Josh Currie at 17:30.
Olkinuora picked up the win with 15 saves; Lazaruk took the loss with 29 stops.
