Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, played on home ice for the final time this season in front of 6,277 fans at the Ford Center. However the visiting South Carolina Stingrays spoiled the IceMen's home finale by claiming a 4-0 win.
Before the game began, the IceMen handed out player awards. Here are the IceMen's Player Award Winners:
Best Defenseman: Brandon Martell
Best Forward: Jarret Lukin
Player's Player (Award voted by team): Zack Currie
Fan Favorite: Peter Sakaris
Once the game began, South Carolina sounded the horn in the first period. Caleb Herbert carried the puck into the offensive zone and tucked a wrister underneath the crossbar. Herbert's power play goal gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead after the opening period.
In the second stanza, South Carolina added three more goals to carry a four-goal lead into the final frame. Andrew Rowe and Drew Mackenzie put in a pair of tallies to chase Branden Komm. Former IceMen forward, Brandon Wong netted the Stingrays fourth goal on Alex Vazzano. The rookie from Sacred Heart stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced in relief.
The IceMen fired 21 pucks at Keegan Asmundson. However, the Stingrays netminder turned back all of them to secure a win for South Carolina and his first professional shutout.
The IceMen begin a six-game road trip to end the season as they visit the Hoosier State Rivals, the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday Night at 6:30 p.m. Central time. Catch that game live at Bar Louie, the official watch party destination of the Evansville IceMen.
