Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (40-22-3-3) rallied behind a third-period natural hat-trick from Chris Knowlton, as they came back from three down against the Kalamazoo Wings (33-28-2-3), 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Budweiser Events Center.
For the third game in a row, Kalamazoo struck first. Forward Matt Caria was in the right spot at the right time as a rebound found his stick, ending up in the back of a wide-open net to give the Wings the 1-0 lead 8:02 into the second. Two minutes and four seconds later, forward Ludwig Blomstrand fired a rocket from the left side, beating Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders high, as Kalamazoo took a 2-0 advantage. Wings forward Michael Neal would pound home a rebound through Saudners' five-hole on the power play for Kalamazoo's third goal in five minutes, extending their lead to 3-0. Eagles forward Kyle Kraemer gave Colorado some life with 4:33 remaining in the second period as he tapped home a rebound past Wings goalie Oscar Dansk to pull the Eagles within two, 3-1.
Eagles forward Chris Knowlton would keep that train rolling on the power play as he roofed a back-hand shot cutting across the crease over Dansk's left shoulder, bringing the Eagles back within one, 3-2. Knowlton brought the train full-circle as he launched a bullet from the mid-slot, knotting the game up at three with just over ten minutes remaining in the game. With four seconds left, the Cardiac Kids did it again. Knowlton tipped a Marc Nemec bomb from the point, sealing the comeback victory for Colorado while completing the hat-trick.
Kraemer added an assist on the final goal to his second-period tally, as the Eagles rallied behind 19 third-period shots, gaining an invaluable two points in the standings before they head off to Idaho for a two-game set against the Steelheads.
