Mallards Outlast Missouri in Shootout
March 29, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (March 29, 2015) - Mario Lamoureux provided the only shootout goal after Kevin Baker scored twice in the third period as the Quad City Mallards (34-27-7) slipped past the host Missouri Mavericks (25-33-8) in the shootout 4-3 Sunday. By claiming their third straight victory the Mallards tightened their grip on the third place in the ECHL's Central Division.
After Lamoureux converted in round one of the shootout, Parker Milner, who made 26 saves in regulation and overtime, denied all five Missouri shooters.
Baker forced overtime- and, as it proved, the shootout, by knotting the game at three from point blank range with the Mallards' third power play goal of the contest with 5:36 left in regulation.
The Mallards found themselves in need of Baker's late heroics after the Mavericks capped off an explosive opening to the final frame of regulation by scoring twice in two minutes and 16 seconds. Just 66 seconds after another close-range Baker goal had given the Mallards their first lead, Missouri's Lindsay Sparks tied the score at two by roofing the puck from the right circle. It was the Mavericks who were up a man when Tyler Currier gave Missouri a 3-2 lead from the slot at the 5:32 mark.
Missouri had first moved in front with Chris Owens's goal from the right wing circle at 10:55 of the first period.
The Mallards were on the power play when Jeff Lee's tip-in evened the score at one at 16:30 of the second period.
The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Brampton Beast. Fans can get four tickets to that game for just $20. After next Wednesday's game, fans can join the Mallards for a postgame party at T.G.I. Friday's on River Drive in Moline.
Tickets for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- including next Wednesday's contest- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000 .
