Idaho Steelheads News Release

(Boise, ID) - Head coach and director of hockey operations Hardy Sauter announced Wednesday that defenseman Steve Oleksy has been loaned to Lake Erie of the American Hockey League.

The AHL is the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America.

This is Oleksy's first call-up to the AHL. The second-year blue-liner joined the Steelheads in January of 2010 and has become a mainstay in the team's lineup. He currently leads the team's defensemen in goals (7) and points (21) and leads the entire team with 134 penalty minutes. In 96 career games with the Steelheads, Oleksy has eight goals, 32 assists, and 231 penalty minutes.

With Oleksy out of the lineup, Sauter has six active defensemen on his roster - Chris Hepp, Weston Tardy, Dustin Friesen, Tyler Ludwig, Matt Case, and John Kearns. Cody Lampl is on the injured reserve and Guillaume Monast is currently on assignment with Texas of the AHL.

The Steelheads are home Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night, hosting the Las Vegas Wranglers at Qwest Arena. It's a "Twice the Ice" week, where fans who purchase a $15 ticket to Wednesday's game have the option of buying a $7 ticket to Saturday night's contest.
