
Royals Acquire Defenseman Sam Roberts

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that team has acquired defenseman Sam Roberts from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL in exchange for forward Devin Timberlake, defenseman Dallas Jackson and goaltender Bobby Jarosz.
Roberts (5'11/183) (26), a second year pro from St. John's, Newfoundland, has registered twelve points (2g-10a) in forty-nine games with Gladiators this season. On Sunday, he picked up an assist in Gwinnett's 6-4 win over the Royals. Last season, Roberts, who represented the Gladiators at the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game in Ontario, California, picked up forty points (10g-30a) in seventy games with Gwinnett and was selected to the ECHL's All-Rookie Team. Prior to turning pro, Roberts was twice member of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship teams with the Hull and Gatineau Olympiques. After completing his career in major junior, Roberts played four seasons of Canadian university hockey with St. Francis-Xavier University (14g-56a70 pts in 109 games). Timberlake, a first year pro from Port Alberni, British Columbia, picked up fourteen points (7g-7a) and twenty-one assists in thirty-five games with Reading. Jackson, a first year pro from Edson, Alberta, scored two goals, assisted on seven others (nine points) and picked up eight penalty minutes in thirty games with the Royals. In his lone game with the Royals, Jarosz, a first year pro from Crystal Lake, Illinois, made thirty-two saves on thirty-five shots in a 6-3 win over the Trenton Devils on February 23.
The Royals return to action tonight (Wednesday, March 2 @ 7:35 pm) when the team will visit U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio to face the Cincinnati Cyclones.
