ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced today that forward Jared Staal has been recalled by the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and that forward Mike McKenzie has been reassigned to the club from Charlotte.
Staal returns to the Checkers where he started the 2010-11 season. Overall in two separate stints with Charlotte this season the 20-year-old has notched one goal in 12 games. In 33 games with the Everblades this season Staal has posted 11 points (6g, 5a).
The Thunder Bay, Ontario native is in his first full professional season after wrapping up a four-year junior career with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League last season.
Staal did however see action in the AHL during each of the last two seasons, skating in five games with the San Antonio Rampage during both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
McKenzie returns to the Everblades lineup after seeing action in nine games with the Checkers in his first call-up to the AHL this season. The recall to the AHL however is the second of his professional career. The 24-year-old made his professional debut last season with the Albany River Rats, playing in three games, notching one assist.
This season the rookie from Whitby, Ontario ranks fifth on the Everblades in scoring with 35 points (17g, 19a) in 51 games. Earlier this season McKenzie was named the ECHL's Rookie of the Month in December.
