Washington Wild Things News Release

London, Ontario- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, took the series from the London Rippers with a 4-3 victory Tuesday. Washington completed their nine-game road trip taking two of three from the Rippers.

The Wild Things grabbed the lead early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Catcher Andrew Heck and shortstop Matt McConnell both reached base to start off the game. With two outs, second baseman Shain Stoner brought both runners home on a single, earning his team leading 16th and 17th RBIs of the season. Stoner eventually went to 2-for-4 in the game.

London responded in the bottom of the second inning, when shortstop Aaron Glaum and second baseman Brad Agustin hit back-to-back RBI singles, tying the game at two.

Washington got back to work in the top of the sixth inning, when center fielder Robbie Garvey led off with a single. Stoner later singled, advancing Garvey to third. Right fielder Allen Boyer followed Stoner's single with an RBI single, driving in Garvey from third. Boyer finished with a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

London quickly answered, adding a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. An RBI double by third baseman Stephen Cardullo scored designated hitter Mark Samuelson to again tie the game at 3.

Starter Chris Smith, who was third in the league in ERA, pitched seven strong innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Smith walked only one, and recorded five strikeouts. Smith's effort earned him his second win of the season.

In the top of the eighth inning, with the score tied 3-3, third baseman Taylor Oldham hit a solo shot on a 1-1 pitch from reliever Tony Delmonico. Oldham's first homerun of the season came at a perfect time, giving the Wild Things a 4-3 lead!

Oldham's home run proved to be enough for the Wild Things' bullpen. Relievers Shawn Smith and Steven Grife combined for two scoreless innings, and Grife picked up his third save of the season.

The team returns to CONSOL Energy Park Wednesday night for a six-game home at. First pitch for their game against the Florence Freedom is scheduled for 7:05. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office and at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
