LOVES PARK, IL - Landon Hernandez drove in six runs, including a first inning grand slam, to propel the Gateway Grizzlies to a 9-3 victory against Rockford Tuesday night at RiverHawks Stadium. The win helped the Grizzlies avoid the series sweep.

Hernandez gave the Grizzlies all the runs they would need in the first inning with a two-out grand slam. He finished the game one shy of the Grizzlies single-game RBI record of seven.

Gateway banged out 15 hits and had six players record at least two hits. Jonathan Johnson, Jerod Yakubik, Chris McClendon, Hernandez and Case Rigby all had two hits while Antone DeJesus led the Grizzlies with three hits.

McClendon reached base four times and scored four runs. The Grizzlies third baseman hit two doubles and walked twice.

Pat Arnold picked up the victory for the Grizzlies. He fired six innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Arnold struck out two and walked three.

Phillip Reamy fired a scoreless seventh inning and Paul Tremlin gave up only two hits while tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.

The Grizzlies begin a three-game road series with the River City Rascals on Wednesday night. Right-hander Chris Enourato (1-2) makes his second start of the season for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
