Game #30 - Home Game #15 (14-15), (6-8)

Last time out.
The Traverse City Beach Bums knocked off the Joliet Slammers by a final score of 5-3 Monday night. Joliet never had the lead in the game but it was a close one the entire night. A Kyle Colligan solo home run gave the Beach Bums the early 1-0 lead and a passed ball scored Jose Vargas later in the first inning to make the score 2-0 Beach Bums. Erik Lis smacked a solo home run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1 but Colligan responded with another home run in the fifth as Traverse City extended their lead to 3-1. Hector Pellot smacked his second home run of the season in the sixth to tie the game at three. However Joliet could get no offense from anyone not named Abel Nieves, Hector Pellot or Erik Lis. Traverse City scored two times in the ninth inning off Brian Smith to take the lead for good. Tyler Ware went five innings and got a no-decision in his pro debut. Scott Dunn got the win for TC.
For Starters.
Tommy "The Barber" Mendoza is coming off his best start of the season on June 14 against the River City Rascals. He went seven innings, giving up only two runs on four hits, while retiring the final 13 batters he faced to get the win. It was his longest outing of the season. Mendoza made his first start for the Slammers on June 27, 2011 and went on to post a 6-2 record during the regular season. He won both his starts in the playoffs while posting a 1.50 ERA. Mendoza was a 5th round draft pick of the Angels in 2005. He has a career ERA of 3.97 over six seasons in affiliated baseball. The right-handed pitcher rose to the Triple-A level at the age of 21 in 2009. He was 7-7 with a 3.36 ERA for Double-A Arkansas and was named a Texas League All Star before earning the promotion to Salt Lake. With the Bees he went 2-1 with a 2.91 ERA. Mendoza suffered from multiple injuries in 2010 which only allowed him to pitch in 10 games.
Home losing streak.
The Slammers' current three-game losing streak at home is their longest of the season. Their longest losing streak of the season overall is four games.
Getting defensive.
After a slow start, the Slammers' defense has become one of the best in the Frontier League. They are tied for second in fielding percentage at .977 and they're also tied for the second fewest errors committed (25).
Plunked!
The Slammers' pitching staff has hit 29 batters this season, tied for the most in the league.
After six.
Joliet is 8-1 when leading after six but they are 1-11 when trailing after six.
I plead the fifth.
Joliet gave up a run in the fifth inning last night, continuing a trend. The Slammers have given up 31 runs in the fifth inning, the most they've surrendered in any frame. Overall, the Slammers have a negative run differential as they've been out-scored 137-121.
More patience.
The Slammers did not draw a walk last night but so far in 2012 the Slammers have walked 110 times, the fourth most in the league. In 2011 they finished with the second fewest walks in the league.
Give me some relief!
In 43.2 IP in May, Joliet's bullpen had an era of 1.88. In 60 IP in June, they have a 5.70 ERA.
Error indicator.
The Slammers are 2-11 in games when they make an error. They are 12-4 in games when they do not.
Out-hit.
When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 12-4, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 1-11.
