SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Despite a 3-1 first intermission lead, the Mississippi RiverKings fell 5-3 to the Tulsa Oilers at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Saturday, February 5th.

The RiverKings took their early lead on goals from R.G. Flath, Brennan Sarazin, and Patrik Levesque. Flath scored his 12th of the season with just 24 seconds gone in the contest and Sarazin gave the RiverKings a 2-0 lead on fifth goal of the year a little over two minutes later at 2:38.

The lead rose to 3-0 at 10:46 of the first on the power play goal scored by Levesque, his 16th of the season and fourth power play goal.

However, the Oilers rallied back with the next five goals. Michel Beausoleil scored twice during the string, while Evan Kotsopoulos, Anthony Battaglia, and Jack Combs added single tallies in the streak.

Beausoleil's first goal came with just over 12 minutes gone in the first period for a 3-1 first intermission result in favor of the RiverKings.

But Tulsa, which has now outscored its opponents 70-45 in the second period this season, tallied twice in the middle session, thanks to goals from Kotsopoulos and Battaglia, a former RiverKing, for a 3-3 tie heading into the final period.

Combs' eventual game-winning goal came at 16:08 of the third period and Beausoleil finished off the scoring with his 16th of the year with 54 seconds remaining for the final score.

Larry Sterling (10-9-2) was tagged with the goaltending loss for the RiverKings, allowing five goals on 21 shots on goal. Trevor Cann (10-3-1), who suffered the overtime loss the previous night against Mississippi despite a 47-save effort, made 27 stops this time in picking up the victory.

Each team ended the night 1-for-8 on the power play.

With the loss, the RiverKings missed a chance to move into a tie for second place in the Central Hockey League Berry Conference standings and remain fifth in the conference race with a 22-21-2 record and 46 points. Instead, Tulsa becomes the second-place team in the conference standings with a 24-19-2 mark for 50 points.

Mississippi, now 4-3-1 for their nine-game home stand, will finish the stretch of home games against the Missouri Mavericks Tuesday, February 8th at the DeSoto Civic Center, starting at 7:05 PM.
