Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs avoided a seventh straight loss in the final game of a season-long nine-game homestand that saw them play its final six games in an eight-day span, downing the Laredo Bucks, 4-3, Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

Collecting just one goal in his first 37 games to start the season, veteran forward Joel Irving picked up his third goal in as many games with 3:52 to play in the opening frame, reclaiming a one-goal lead for Arizona first grabbed by Joey Sides earlier in the period.

Irving entered the offensive zone and sent a wrist shot on net from the near boards that Laredo netminder Torrie Jung lost in traffic. Sides assisted on the play to pick up his second point of the period.

Jarred Mohr pulled Laredo even at one 51 seconds earlier, converting a breakaway chance after Jeff Bes found the defenseman cheating up ice.

Sides tallied the game's first goal 7:44 into the contest to give the Sundogs a 1-0 lead, crossing the blue line and besting Jung with a wrist shot from the near dot. Corey Laurysen earned his second assist and third point of the season, forcing a turnover along the Arizona bench after upending B.J. Crum with a hip check at neutral ice.

The Sundogs outshot the Bucks 17-5 in the opening frame and 36-23 on the night.

Daniel Koger, making his first appearance in the two teams' three-game series after missing the first two contests, pulled Laredo even at two with his 22nd goal of the year midway through the second period, one-timing a shot from the top of the left circle 13 seconds into the Bucks' third power play of the game.

Jeff Hazelwood slapped a rebound past Levente Szuper from the top of the goal mouth just 19 seconds into the final frame to give his club its first lead of the game but Karl Sellan and Luke Erickson each found the back of the net inside the third period's three-minute mark, reclaiming a one-goal lead they wouldn't forfeit.

Sellan netted his fifth of the season at the 1:53 mark, redirecting a Morgan MacLean backhand centering feed inside the near post and past Jung to even the score at three before Erickson picked up his league-leading 29th marker of the year for the eventual game-winner.

The Sundogs were held without a power-play goal for the first time in four games, finishing 0-for-4 with the man advantage while Laredo converted once on five attempts.

Arizona (18-23-5) finishes their longest stretch of games at Tim's Toyota Center this season with a 3-5-1 record after going 2-0-1 in its first three contests.

Currently in seventh place in the Berry Conference, the Sundogs sit four points ahead of eighth-place Laredo and just two points back of sixth-place Odessa.

Seven of Arizona's next eight games come away from Tim's Toyota Center with the lone home game set for Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7:05pm against the Jackalopes.

Next up for the Sundogs is a two-game set against the defending Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Champion Rapid City Rush beginning Friday, Feb. 11 at 7:05pm (Arizona time).
