Dayton Gems News Release

The Dayton Gems snapped their four game losing streak by defeating Quad City 3-2 on Saturday night.

Dayton took the lead early in the second period on a Nathan Oke goal and never trailed again for the remainder of the game.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, the Gems were able to tie the game when Brandon Naurato scored his ninth goal of the season for the Gems. Mike Vaskivuo and Brett Lutes were each credited with an assist on the play.

The Gems took control of the game in the second period. Oke scored the go-ahead goal just 2:47 into the second frame. Nick Canzanello then added to the lead with his fourth goal this year to make it 3-1.

Quad City didn't waste any time in the third period to try and get back into the game. Joe Blaznek made it 3-2 just 57 seconds into the final period.

That was the last time either team would score. Both sides played great defense for the remainder of the game and prevented their opponent from scoring, giving the Gems the 3-2 win.

Dayton will have a break until Friday, Feb. 11. The Gems will be on the road again that day when they take on Evansville at 8:35 p.m.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
