Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped the second game of their home-and-home set with the Calgary Hitmen this weekend by a 10-2 score at Rogers Place on Saturday night.

For a second straight night, the Oil Kings found themselves down 3-0 in the first period to the Hitmen after the visitors got goals at even-strength, on the power play and shorthanded in the opening 20.

Sean Tschigerl gave the Hitmen a 1-0 lead less than five minutes in after stuffing a puck in at the side of the net after a point-shot bounced to him off the end boards.

Just past the midway mark of the period, the Hitmen extended their lead after Ben Kindel roofed a shot from the right-circle of the Edmonton zone on a Calgary power play.

With just under five minutes left in the opening stanza, David Adaszynski picked up a shorthanded marker after a pass from Tschigerl pinballed off an Edmonton defender to him at the side of the Edmonton net that he deposited.

Before the period was out though, the Oil Kings did get one goal back after Skyler Bruce broke into the Hitmen zone on an odd-man rush, dragged the puck to the slot a ripped a shot top-shelf for his sixth goal of the season.

Early in the second period, the Oil Kings were able to pull to within one after Adam Jecho lasered home a wrist shot from the left-circle of the Calgary zone on an Edmonton power play just 3:56 into the frame.

The Hitmen would usher a sizeable response though as Oliver Tulk, Carson Wetsch, Carter Yakemchuk and Maxim Muranov would all find the back of the net to put the Hitmen comfortably in front by a 7-2 margin after 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, the Hitmen added three more goals with each of Wetsch, Tschigerl and Muranov collecting their second goals of the game.

Kolby Hay and Logan Cunningham combined for 29 saves for the Oil Kings, while Alex Garrett made 30 for the Hitmen. Edmonton went 1-for-6 on the power play, Calgary was 4-for-4.
