November 11, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash - The Spokane Chiefs faced off against the Kamloops Blazers for the third time already this season, in front of a raucous sell-out crowd of over 10,300 hockey fanatics. It was a busy night at the arena, featuring Coca-Cola Family Feast and Rally Towel Giveaway, Veteran's Day, and School Night Presented By Shriners Hospitals for Children. The first 5,000 fans in the building received a special Coca-Cola Rally Towel and there were more than 4,000 students in attendance from schools throughout the Inland Northwest.

On the ice, the crowd propelled the Chiefs to a quick start. Feist received a pass from Ekström along the blue line before firing it towards goal. Owen Martin planted himself in front of the net and tipped it past the Blazers' goaltender to make it 1-0 on the power play at 4:32 in the first.

For Martin it was his third goal of the season while Feist recorded his third assist since coming over to Spokane from Regina in a trade earlier this season. With the initial pass on the play, Ekström added his second assist since signing from Sweden earlier this season.

Dylan Sydor was next on the scoresheet to tie the game for Kamloops at 5:47. Connor Levis and Fraser Minten had the assists on the play.

The first period ended at 1-1 with Spokane leading the shots battle 12-7. The second period was all Chiefs.

Catton drove the right wing before stopping on a dime and somehow sniped the top corner while falling to the ice. Conner Roulette and Chase Bertholet added the helpers on the goal. At the end of the period, the roles would reverse, with Catton turning provider on a Conner Roulette special. After a late scoring change, Saige Weinstein was added to the assist ledger as well.

After two, Spokane led 3-1 with 25 shots to Kamloops' 16.

Dylan Sydor continued his hot night for the Blazers with two consecutive scores, bringing the game back to a tie at three goals a piece at the 11:46 mark.

Spokane would take off from there, scoring three goals in the final seven minutes of the game to pull away and win with a resounding 6-3 scoreline.

Berkly Catton had the game winner, his second goal of the night, and is putting the league on notice.

Owen Martin tallied the next goal, recording his first career 2-goal game. Martin was in the left face-off circle where he tipped a long range shot. The bouncing puck hamstrung the Kamloops netminder, making it 5-3 in favor of Spokane.

The Blazers threw caution to the wind, pulling the goalie down 5-3. Chase Bertholet stole the puck and fought off defenders down the center of the ice before firing into the empty net.

It was a relatively clean game with Spokane going 1/3 on the power play and 2/4 on the penalty kill. Spokane led the way with 40 shots to 30 for Kamloops. Cooper Michaluk returned to net for the Chiefs, making 27 stops.

The Chiefs are back in action for two more games at the Spokane Arena next weekend. Spokane faces the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday, November 18th for Coeur d'Alene Casino Native American Heritage Night at 6:05 PM. It will be the first match-up against the new U.S. Division foe and will feature a likely return to Spokane for d-man Graham Sward. Sunday, November 19th is the Sturm Heating Clothing Drive Benefiting Teen & Kid Closet. Bring new or gently used clothing items to the Spokane Chiefs ticket office during the week, or to the game on the 19th, to receive a discounted game ticket or team store coupon. Sundays are a 5:05 PM puck drop with doors open at 4 PM.
