Raiders Win Chippy 3-2 Game in Spokane

November 11, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release

It was a fast, physical style game in Spokane on Friday night, but the Prince Albert Raiders were able to come away with a 3-2 win against the Chiefs.

Both teams exchanged scoring chances early in the game, but it was Spokane who opened the scoring 13:10 into the first period. The Raiders were unable to get the puck out of their own end after a couple of turnovers, and Conner Roulette beat Max Hildebrand with a shot to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Harrison Lodewyk nearly responded for the Raiders, but a sharp angle shot drilled the crossbar and stayed out, keeping it a 1-0 game. After 20 minutes, Spokane held onto their one goal lead, despite the Raiders leading 15-9 in shots.

After getting chance after chance in the game, the Raiders finally opened the scoring at the 10:36 mark of the second period, and it came on their third powerplay of the game. Aiden Oiring fed a pass to Sloan Stanick, who was one of the best Raiders on the ice all night. From the left circle, Stanick had all the time in the world to snipe a shot top corner past Dawson Cowan's glove. His sixth goal of the season tied things up at 1-1 just past the midway mark of the middle frame.

The Chiefs took their lead back with 2:57 left in the second period, as the Raiders couldn't get the puck out of their own end after their powerplay expired. Will McIsaac buried a shot past Max Hildebrand, but it was a shot that the Raider netminder wanted back, as it deflected off of one of his defencemen and in the net. It was McIsaac's first goal of the season, and it gave Spokane a late 2-1 lead.

Prince Albert outshot Spokane 26-19 after 40 minutes of play, but it was the home side that held onto their one goal lead heading into the third period of play.

After having two great scoring chances in the first two periods, Harrison Lodewyk was finally rewarded with a goal. The forward had a partial breakaway down the left wing and beat Cowan 2:40 into the third. His second goal of the season made it a 2-2 tie.

Lodewyk wasn't done there, as he scored his second goal of the night with 5:41 left on the clock. Ryder Ritchie beat out an icing call and left the puck for Sloan Stanick. Stanick then fed a perfect pass in front for Lodewyk, who roofed a shot past Cowan for his third goal of the season. It was a big goal for Prince Albert, as it gave them their first lead of the night, as it became a 3-2 game.

Hayden Pakkala hit the post with the Spokane net empty, which allowed the Chiefs to turn the play back up the ice. Late pressure was nearly rewarded, as a shot went in the back of the Raiders net, but the buzzer had sounded to end the game. A quick video review confirmed that time had expired on the clock, and the Raiders came away with a 3-2 win to collect their second win of their seven game road trip.

Prince Albert (11-8-0-1) is back in action tomorrow night in Kennewick to take on the Tri-City Americans. Puck drop is at 8:05 Sask time.
