WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League (WHL) have announced the assignment of forward Matthew Savoie to Wenatchee from the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Sabres previously announced the move Saturday afternoon.

Selected ninth overall by Buffalo in the 2022 NHL Draft, Savoie made his NHL debut Friday evening, logging 3:55 of ice time against the Minnesota Wild in a 3-2 Sabres win. He began the season on injured reserve, after sustaining an upper-body injury during the finale of Buffalo's Prospect Challenge, missing all of the team's preseason training camp. Savoie spent a two-week conditioning stint with the Rochester Americans, Buffalo's American Hockey League affiliate, scoring five points over six games of AHL competition and opening his AHL career with points in his first five outings. He also made two appearances for Rochester during last season's Calder Cup Playoff series against the Hershey Bears.

Savoie did not appear for Wenatchee during its WHL exhibition schedule, and has not yet appeared for the Wild during their regular season. The St. Albert, Alberta native has made 149 appearances in three seasons of WHL competition, all for the Winnipeg ICE, and has posted 73 goals and 119 assists in that span.

He is the second of the team's three first-round draft selections to be returned to Wenatchee, following Conor Geekie's reassignment to the Wild in early October. Forward Zach Benson remains on injured reserve with Buffalo as he recovers from a lower-body injury.

Wenatchee's game Saturday at Medicine Hat closes out a three-game week on the road, with the opening puck drop at Co-Op Place scheduled for 6 p.m. Pacific time. Live coverage is available on Newsradio 560 KPQ and WHL Live.

The Wild return home for a November 15 contest against the Tri-City Americans, presented by LocalTel. Tickets for that game and all home regular-season contests are on sale now at 509-888-7825, or by visiting the team office at Town Toyota Center. Updated news and information on Wild hockey are always available through the team's website and on the team's social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
