Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Odessa, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas could not stop the Odessa Jackalope attack, falling 5-2 Saturday night.
The opening period was a back and forth affair, with Odessa striking first. Forward Dominic Leveille gave Odessa the lead four minutes into the period with a wrist shot from the high slot. Amarillo answered back when Stuart MaRae netted a power-play goal (his sixth goal of the season). Ten seconds after the Amarillo marker, Gorillas defenseman James Jernberg was assessed an extra five minute penalty after his fight. The Jackalopes and Gorillas skated an even middle frame, with Odessa scoring the lone goal. Jeff Pierce would net his second power-play goal of the game (and eighth of the year) at the 8:15 mark. At the end of two periods Odessa 4 Amarillo 1.
Gorillas' Stuart MacRae scored his second goal of the night with one minute remaining, but Odessa would seal the deal with an empty net goal at the 19:41 mark. Final score Odessa 5 Amarillo 2.
