Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The good news for the Brahmas: they came out shooting, recording their season best 42 shots on goal against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The bad?; it wasn't enough as Texas fell 5-2 at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

Grant Goeckner-Zoeller was on fire for the Killer Bees scoring a pair of goals in the first period. His first came five minutes into the game with the assists recorded to Jesse Bennefield and Daymen Rycroft. The remainder of the opening frame continued in a steady pace until Luke Sellars was called for hooking with :47 seconds remaining on the scoreboard. It took Goeckner-Zoeller no time as his slapper from the point off the faceoff breezed between the pads of Joe Palmer for the Killer Bees go ahead goal.

Rio Grande Valley came out firing in the second and nailed a 3-0 lead when Shaun Landolt beat Palmer for his fifth of the season :48 seconds in. It was minutes later when the Brahmas received what they were looking for when Bees netminder Wylie Rogers was called for roughing, giving the Brahmas struggling powerplay the opportunity to slim the margin. As Joel Irving served the penalty for the goaltender, Brahmas rookie Jason Reese found the back of the net with just under a minute with the man advantage.

Things took a turn for the worse when a hit on Jordan Cameron along the boards at the 17:31 marker erupted into chaos and ultimately a game misconduct on Cameron and offsetting roughing minors to Texas' Grant Jacobsen and Rio's Landolt. The Bees 7th ranked powerplay went to work quickly and within ten seconds owned a 4-1 lead from a 5-on-3 goal by defenseman Nathan Ansell.

A goal by Tyler Skworchinski put Texas within two but a second Rio powerplay goal pinned the victory for the Bees and gave Palmer his second loss of the season between the pipes.

The Brahmas will now gear up for a three game road trip next week beginning in Odessa Thursday at 7:05 PM. Following the game they will make the long trek to Hidalgo, Texas to face the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for a 7:35 PM faceoff on Friday. The last game on their Texas road trip will be a match with the Laredo Bucks at 7:30 PM on Saturday. All the action can be caught pay-per-view through CHL-TV or at ZuRoma Bar and Grill at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas next home game is Wednesday, November 25 against the Jackalopes at 7:05 PM; they will be sporting their specialty Lady Liberty jerseys for night one of Military Nights at NYTEX.
