Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS - 11/13/09) --- The Mississippi RiverKings returned to the win column and to first place in the Central Hockey League Northern Conference standings on Friday, November 13th, thanks to a pair of goals from Cam Severson.
The RiverKings beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-1 in Southaven.
Severson opened the scoring for the RiverKings with a power play goal at 14:38 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. That was followed by the eventual game-winning goal from Steve Makway with 56 seconds left in the first period of play. That would give the RiverKings a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes of action.
There was no scoring in the second period, but Ryan Held increased the lead to 3-0 when he netted his 11th goal of the year at 9:07 of the frame for a 3-0 lead.
Bossier-Shreveport averted the shutout when newcomer Matt Cook scored his first of the season at 15:13 of the third, but Severson's empty-net goal with 43 seconds remaining provided the final 4-1 scored.
RiverKings goaltender Ray Jean won his seventh game of the season (7-4-0) at the crease with a 22-save performance. Ian Keserich opened the third period in goal in his second appearance of the season and stopped all six shots taken against him.
Losing goaltender John DeCaro made 29 saves of 32 shots taken against him for Bossier-Shreveport.
Mississippi was 2-for-5 on the power play and stopped all six Bossier power play chances.
The RiverKings returned to first place in the CHL Northern Conference with a 7-6-0 record, one point more than second place Colorado.
At the conclusion of the game, an auction of the game night special jerseys during Autism Awareness Night, presented by EMHC was held. The auction raised about $5,000 for the RiverKings' Assists for Autism program and for the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program.
Next up for the RiverKings is a road game in Tulsa Saturday night at 7:35 PM against the Oilers. The next RiverKings home game is next Friday night, again against Bossier-Shreveport at 7:05 PM in Southaven.
