NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The scoreboard read "1-3" at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Friday the 13th, but in a great way for the Brahmas as they defeated the Gorillas 3-1.

The good, the bad and the ugly summed up the first period between the two Southern Conference foes at the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday night. A ‘good' came in the form of a goal by Amarillo forward Chris Cloud five minutes into the game. The ‘bad' was a dislodged Amarillo net which led to a disallowed Brahmas goal to tie the game, much to the dismay of the home crowd. As for the ugly, there was nothing more evident to it than a fight between Brahmas Luke Sellars and Gorilla Neil Smith :49 seconds after the puck drop. The nastiness between the teams heated up intensely with another rumble, this time between Texas' tough guy James Hiebert and Amarillo defenseman James Jernberg.

Home offense was needed in front of the sold out crowd and it was Jordan Cameron who was able to deliver to the fans with his second goal of the season. Lee Jubinville and Kevin McLeod recorded the helpers. Jason Deitsch found his way to the penalty box with seven minutes remaining in the period, and despite the man disadvantage, the Brahmas displayed their explosive penalty killing unit. As the Gorillas set up in front of Texas netminder Joe Palmer, McLeod and Sellars found the puck and delivered it to the blade of Matt Burto who went in one-on-one with Mike Brown and came out successful for the Brahmas 2-1 lead in the game. The shorthanded goal would be the Brahmas fifth of the season.

Jubinville racked his second goal of the season top shelf to finish things off and send Amarillo packing. The Brahmas outshot the Gorillas 31 to 26 and Palmer stopped 25-26 shots for his third victory of the season.

Tomorrow night the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees will visit the NYTEX Sports Centre for the first time this season for a 7:05 PM faceoff. For tickets to the Southern Conference battle please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or log on to: www.brahmas.com.
