Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Northwest League of Professional Baseball has named its roster for the upcoming 2018 Northwest League vs. Pioneer League All-Star Game set for Tuesday, August 7th in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Canadians OF Griffin Conine, OF Tanner Kirwer and RHP Cobi Johnson have been selected by the Northwest League to represent Vancouver at this year's event.

Conine, 21, was selected in the 2nd Round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft out of Duke University and has played in 32 games with the Canadians hitting .256 with five (5) home runs and 18 RBI. 15 of Conine's 31 hits this season have gone for extra bases. As well, Conine's defensive ranks among the best in the Northwest League with five (5) assists and just one error in 66 chances this season.

Kirwer, 22, was taken in the 20th Round of the 2017 Draft and leads the Canadians in several offensive categories including average (.315), hits (39) and stolen bases (19) over his 36 games in the Northwest League. His 19 stolen bases ranks him tied for 2nd in the NWL alongside Tra Holmes (Hillsboro) and three back of leader Fernando Kelli (Eugene - 22). Kirwer is a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta and played last season with Bluefield of the Appalachian League where he hit .224 (19-for-85).

Johnson, 22, was selected in the 30th Round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft after going 0-1 with a 3.54ERA with the Seminoles. Since his arrival in Vancouver, Johnson has been a model of consistency going 1-0 with a 2.37ERA in 13 games, striking out 20 and walking just four in his 19 innings of work - many of those innings in tough situations as the Canadians closer. Johnson is five-for-five in save opportunities this summer. Johnson has not given up a run in eight of his last nine appearances for Vancouver.

The Vancouver Canadians coaching staff led by manager Dallas McPherson will also be on-hand as the defending Northwest League Champions will have their entire group leading the way with hitting coach Aaron Mathews, pitching coach Jim Czajkowski, trainer Michael Rendon, strength coach Pat Rosanio and video coordinator Patrick Griffin available to all members of the 2018 Northwest League squad.

The Vancouver Canadians wish to congratulate all of the players selected by the Northwest League of Professional Baseball to attend this year's All-Star Game.
