Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (23-22) defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils (22-24) by a final score of 11-10 on Monday night. The Hawks ended their five-game losing streak in a game that featured 29 combined hits.
Boise came out in the 1st inning and the offense could not be stopped. The first six batters of the game all had hit. A bunt single for Cole Anderson started the game and it was followed by RBI doubles from Terrin Vavra and Luke Morgan. The Hawks took a 2-0 lead.
With Morgan on second-base, Danny Edgeworth tripled and Willie MacIver did the same. The Hawks quickly led 4-0. With MacIver on third-base, Daniel Jipping extended his hitting streak to nine games on a single, and Boise had a 5-0 lead after one inning.
But Tri-City came back with three runs off Hawks starter Nick Bush in the 2nd inning. It was capped off by a two-RBI double from Michael Curry making it just a 5-3 Boise lead. The Hawks went back to work in the home-half of the 2nd inning though. Terrin Vavra hit his 2nd home run of the season on a solo blast to make it 6-3 Boise. Daniel Jipping added two more RBI's for the night on a double to right field and the Hawks led at 8-3.
Jipping finishes the night going 2-3 with three-RBI.
Tri-City tacked on a run in the 4th off Bush. The lefty ended his night going five innings allowing four runs and picking up his 2nd win of the year. Shelby Lackey threw two innings of scoreless baseball after Bush. The right-hander has not allowed a run in his last 14 innings-pitched.
Boise added some insurance runs in the 7th on a Willie MacIver, two-run home run. It was MacIver's 3rd of the season to make it 10-4 Boise.
MacIver ends his night 2-4 with three-RBI.
Tri-City kept responding though. In the 8th inning, Blake Hunt had an RBI single for the Dust Devils and Luis Asuncion later hit a two-run home run, off Hawks reliever Peyton Gray, to make it just a 10-7 lead for Boise.
The Hawks answer to that was a run in the 8th inning when Danny Edgeworth hit a gapper into right field. Boise took an 11-7 advantage.
The 9th inning got chaotic. Jefry Valdez came on for the Hawks and loaded the bases. Olivier Basabe singled to make the score just 11-8. Tri-City trailed by only three runs, but not for long.
Blake Hunt hit a groundball to the shortstop Vavra that looked like a double-play. The ball took a nasty hop and went over Vavra's head into left-field. It scored two and Tri-City was down 11-10. But Valdez settled down and got three straight outs stranding runners on first and third for Tri-City and ending the five-game losing streak for Boise.
The Hawks got multi-hit games from Jipping, MacIver, Vavra, Anderson, Morgan, and Danny Edgeworth. Edgeworth had the only three-hit night of the group, going 3-4 with three runs, and three RBI.
