July 31, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Northwest League announced on Tuesday that five Spokane Indians have been selected to represent the Northwest League in the NWL-PBL All-Star Game in Grand Junction, Colorado on Tuesday, August 7th. Third baseman Diosbel Arias, pitcher Emmanuel Clase, pitcher Hans Crouse, first baseman Curtis Terry, and catcher Francisco Ventura were all chosen to represent Spokane in the mid-summer classic.
The five Spokane Indians named to the team ties the Tri-City Dust Devils for the most NWL all-star representatives from a single team. The five Spokane All-Stars are also the most the Indians have sent to the game since eight Indians made the All-Star team in 2014.
This marks the fourth-straight season that the Northwest League and Pioneer Baseball League have squared off in an All-Star Game. The first match up occurred in Spokane in 2015. The NWL is a perfect 3-0 against the PBL, including a 5-4 victory last year at Hillsboro.
3B Diosbel Arias - Arias has been a consistent piece in Spokane's lineup all season. The Cuban currently ranks second in the Northwest League with a .362 batting average and first with a .444 on-base percentage. In 35 games this season, he's hit three home runs and driven in 25 runs.
RHP Emmanuel Clase - Clase has emerged as the Indians' closer in 2018. He currently leads the NWL with seven saves. The right-hander sports a 1.17 ERA in 13 games this season, and has struck out 17 batters over 15.1 innings.
RHP Hans Crouse - Crouse was a 2nd round selection in the 2017 MLB Draft and currently ranks as the Texas Rangers' #5 prospect according to MLB.com. The righty is tied for first in the league with four wins, and his 41 strikeouts rank third. He's picked up wins in his last three starts and has allowed a total of four runs over 19.2 innings to drop his ERA to 2.45.
1B Curtis Terry - Terry picked up right where he left off last season as the NWL's home run leader. His 12 home runs this year leads the league and ties his total for the entire 2017 season. The 2015 13th round pick also leads the league with 36 RBI. His plate discipline has improved this season, with Terry drawing 14 walks to give him an on-base percentage of .387.
C Franisco Ventura - Ventura has arguably the hottest bat in all the NWL right now. Prior to July 2nd, the catcher had just one RBI in seven games played. Since that time, he's driven in 15 runs over 15 games, including five home runs. All five homers came in a nine game stretch.
