
Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short for Sea Dogs in 4-3 Loss to Rumble Ponies

BINGHAMTON, NY - Despite a late-innings rally, the Portland Sea Dogs fell 4-3 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium.
Kole Cottam finished the night 3-for-4 with two doubles, including one in the ninth inning. Wil Dalton also had a strong night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run and RBI in the ninth inning, also.
Adam Oller was awarded the victory for the Rumble Ponies tossing 7.0 shutout innings allowing three hits while striking out 12 Sea Dogs. Josh Winckowski was given the loss pitching 6.1 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Hayden Senger hit a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the second inning and the Rumble Ponies led, 1-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, Jake Mangum doubled to left field then scored on an RBI single Brett Baty and Binghamton led, 2-0.
The Rumble Ponies scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mangum hit a lead-off single to rightfield then advanced to third on a base hit by Baty. Quinn Brodey then flared a fly ball down the right field line. Second baseman Tanner Nishioka was able to glove the ball, but dropped it, allowing Mangum to score on the error and the Rumble Ponies led, 3-0.
After a lead-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning by Mangum, he advanced to third on a fly out to right field by Edgard Fermin. Baty then hit a long sacrifice fly to left field and Mangum was able to score. Portland continued to trail, 4-0.
In the top of the eight inning, Wil Dalton led-off with a double to left centerfield and scored on an RBI double by Tanner Nishioka. Nishioka then came across on a fielding error by the shortstop, Fermin, and the Sea Dogs were on the board, 4-2.
The Sea Dogs rally fell short in the ninth inning. With one out, Ronaldo Hernandez singled up the middle then moved to third on a double by Kole Cottam. Wil Dalton then singled to left field, bringing home Hernandez and Portland trailed, 4-3. The Rumble Ponies then retired the next two batters and the Sea Dogs fell in the fourth game of the series.
Portland and Binghamton will meet again tomorrow night at 7:05pm at Mirabito Stadium. RHP Andrew Politi (5-7, 5.92 ERA) will be on the mound for the Sea Dogs while the Rumble Ponies will send LHP Cole Gordon (0-3, 5.37 ERA).
