
Oller Lights out as Ponies Hold off Sea Dogs

BINGHAMTON, NY - Adam Oller pitched seven scoreless innings allowing just three hits with no walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts as the Rumble Ponies held on for a 4-3 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (48-31) on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium. Binghamton has taken three of the first four games in the series.
Oller (5-3) earned the win as he struck out the first five batters he faced. He did not allow a runner past second base and never had more than one runner on in an inning. Over his last two starts, Oller has allowed 1 run, striking out 22 batters with no walks.
The Ponies (34-45) scored first for the fourth straight game with Hayden Senger scorching a home run to right center field, his third of the year. Brett Baty added an RBI single in the third to score Jake Mangum to make it 2-0. Mangum would score again in the fifth, as with runners on the corners and two out Portland second basemen Tanner Nishioka dropped a pop up in shallow right field. Baty would then drive Mangum home once more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to left to make it 4-0. Mangum finished 3-4 with three runs scored and two doubles. Over his last two games he is 6-8 with five runs scored.
Portland would score two in the eighth to cut the Ponies lead in half. In the ninth, with runners on second and third with one out, an infield hit by Wil Dalton off Eric Orze scored Ronaldo Hernandez from third to make it 4-3. Later in the frame, with runners on second and third and two out, Orze got Tanner Nishioka to fly out to left to end the game, giving Orze his fourth save of the year.
Josh Winckowski (5-3) took the loss for Portland allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits over six and a third innings.
The Ponies continue their seven-game series with the Sea Dogs Friday night with first pitch at 7:05 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Baty finished 2-3 with 2 RBI...David Rodriguez and Senger each had multi-hit games.
