Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Lincoln Saltdogs suffered a three-game sweep in Sioux Falls, falling 13-8 on Tuesday. Lincoln drops to 39-36 on the season, 10-17 in the second half. The game was ended in the top of the eighth after a sudden downpour hit Sioux Falls Stadium.
The Pheasants led 4-1 after three innings, and then broke the game open with nine runs in the fourth. Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (6-6) couldn't escape the frame, as 13 Sioux Falls batters came to the plate. The Pheasants totaled three singles, two doubles, a home run, two walks and a hit batter against Saltdogs pitching in the inning.
Down 13-1, though, the Saltdogs refused to quit. They scored their second run in the fifth inning when Albenis Machado doubled and later came home to score on a throwing error. Lincoln then staged a six-run rally in the seventh inning, getting a solo home run by Juan Camacho, a two-run blast from Pat Trettel, a Machado sacrifice fly and a two-run homer by Rafael Alvarez. The three home runs tied an American Association record for home runs in one inning. All the runs in the frame came against Sioux Falls starter Ryan Rodriguez (9-4). Lincoln added an unearned run in the eighth inning as the rain began falling, but because the rains came before the inning was completed, the score reverted to where it was after the final full inning was completed.
Sioux Falls had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Lincoln tied things in the second on a solo home run by Juan Richardson. The Pheasants went back ahead with a pair of home runs in the third, a two-run shot by Beau Torbert and a solo homer by Brandon Sing.
After an off-day on Wednesday, Lincoln returns home Thursday night at 7:05 to open a three-game series against St. Paul. Lincoln's starting pitcher has not been announced.
