SIOUX CITY, IA (August 4, 2010) - The St. Paul Saints scored a total of two runs in the three game series against the Sioux City Explorers and consequently were swept as they lost 6-1 on Wednesday night at Lewis and Clark Park.

For the second consecutive night the Explorers plated two runs in the first inning as Eric Williams led off with a swinging bunt for a single. Darrick Hale followed with an RBI double to make it 1-0. With one out, Kent Sakamoto knocked home Hale with a single making it 2-0.

The game stayed that way as Saints starter Jason Godin and Explorers starter David Welch matched each other pitch for pitch. The Saints best scoring chance came in the third when Chad Gabriel doubled with two outs, but Edgard Clemente struck out. In the seventh Brent Krause led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Welch struck out the next three hitters to end the inning. The Saints finally got to Welch in the eighth when Brandon Carter tripled and scored on a ground out by Gabriel. Welch went 7.2 innings allowing one run on eight hits while striking out nine.

Godin was strong, but the Explorers got to him again in the sixth when he walked Sakamoto with one out. He stole second and scored on a double from Ray Serrano to make it 3-0. With two outs Ernie Banks came through with an RBI single giving the Explorers a 4-1 lead and putting the game away.

The Saints now travel to Haymarket Park and begin a three game series on Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Lincoln Saltdogs. The Saints send RHP Kyle Foster (1-5, 3.90). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
