Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Tuesday night's game was shortened by rain, but Beau Torbert made sure to get his work in early.
For the second consecutive night, Beau Torbert went 4-for-5 and powered the Sioux Falls Pheasants to a 13-8 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. The first of Torbert's five RBI was his 77th of the year, breaking Charles Peterson's nine-year-old franchise record for most RBI in a season.
The win completed a three-game sweep of the Lincoln Saltdogs, raising the first-place Pheasants' league-best record to 52-23 overall and 20-7 in the second half of the season.
Torbert's RBI single in the bottom of the first gave the Pheasants a 1-0 lead. Lincoln's Juan Richardson responded with a solo home run in the top of the second to even the game at 1-1. Torbert and Brandon Sing hit back-to-back home runs in the third to give Sioux Falls a 4-1 lead, which they kept for good. It was Sing's league-leading 25th of the season and Torbert's 18th.
The Pheasants exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning, capped by Eddy Rodriguez's two-run blast over the stadium perimeter in left field. It was the second time this season that the Pheasants scored nine runs in one inning.
Lincoln grabbed a run in the sixth inning and then rallied with six runs in the seventh. The Saltdogs hit three home runs in the inning. That tied a league record set by Sioux Falls on Opening Day, ironically against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Mother Nature intervened with a heavy rainstorm in the top of the eighth inning, and the game was made official.
Starter Ryan Rodriguez (9-4) notched his ninth win despite allowing eight runs and 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked none and struck out one. Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (6-6) made an early exit after 3 2/3 innings. He was touched for 12 runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out four.
The Pheasants begin an eight-game road trip against the Pensacola Pelicans at 6:45 p.m. on Friday, August 6. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230 AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
The Pheasants are members of the American Association, a 10-team independent professional baseball league playing its fifth season this summer. Individual and group ticket information is available by calling (605) 333-0179. Fans can also visit the Pheasants at www.sfpheasants.com.
