Sioux City 2, St. Paul 1
The Explorers scored twice in the first on a two-run single by CF TJ Bohn and rode an excellent pitching performance by starter Chad Povich to a narrow 2-1 victory over St. Paul. Bohn's single was one of only seven Sioux City hits in the game off of St. Paul starter Ryan Morse. Povich improved to 5-1 by allowing just four hits and a single earned run in seven innings. Relievers Eddie Delacruz and David Trahan, who earned his second save, mopped up the final two innings.
Wichita 6, Shreveport-Bossier 3
Wichita starter Bubba ODonnell earned a win in his first outing of the season by pitching seven innings and allowing just three runs in a 6-3 win over Shreveport-Bossier. ODonnell scattered just five hits and struck out seven before handing the game over to two relievers, who didn't allow a baserunner. Offensively, the Wingnuts got a balanced offensive attack that included hits from all but one of its starters. C Jeff Christy went 4-for-5 in the game and RF Jorge Cortes knocked in three runs and smacked his third home run of the season. Red-hot Shreveport-Bossier 1B Christopher Garcia collected two hits and his 12th home run of the season.
Pensacola 11, Grand Prairie 8
Pensacola scored seven times in the first inning behind a bases-clearing double by 1B Chris Chiarappa and held on to outlast Grand Prairie 11-8. The big first and an RBI single by SS Dallas Christison in the next frame chased Grand Prairie starter Ryan Riddle from the game. The AirHogs rallied for five tallies in the bottom of the first, and evened the score in the fifth on a solo homer by DH Jason Stokes and a two-run single by LF Daniel Berg. But Pensacola took the lead in the sixth when CF Francisco Leandro scored on a passed ball, and expanded the lead with two more in the ninth. After Pensacola starter Bryan Rembisz struggled early, three relievers didn't allow a run over the final 4.1 innings.
Sioux Falls 13, Lincoln 9 (7 innings)
In a rain-shortened game, Sioux Falls scored nine times in the bottom of the fourth and held off a late Lincoln rally to win 13-9. LF Beau Torbert's two-run single and C Eddy Rodriguez's two-run homer highlighted the big inning. Torbert finished the game with four hits and five RBI. After the nine run frame gave the Pheasants a 13-1 lead, home runs by Lincoln LF Juan Camacho, DH Pat Trettel, and RF Rafael Alvarez in the top of the seventh made the game interesting before rain ended the affair in the bottom of the inning.
Fort Worth 8, El Paso 2 (In Progress - Top 9)
This game was in progress with Fort Worth leading El Paso 8-2 in the top of the ninth inning. For more information, go to our website at americanassociationbaseball.com.
