CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Cedar Rapids Kernels won an extra-inning pitcher's duel against the Peoria Chiefs, 2-1, Monday afternoon at Perfect Game Field. Marcus Nidiffer drove home both runs for the Kernels in the ballgame, including a 10th inning walk-off single with two outs that scored Justin Bass that gave Cedar Rapids the victory.

Dakota Robinson (6-1) earned the win for the Kernels out of the bullpen, pitching 2.2 innings of no-hit baseball to pick up his sixth win of the season. Peoria reliever Patrick Francescon (0-1) got the loss for the Chiefs, giving up two hits and one run in 0.2 innings on the mound. Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision, but each had magnificent games on the mound. The starting pitchers combined to strike out eight hitters and allow zero earned runs.

Kernels starting pitcher P.J. Jang allowed six hits and an unearned run over 7.1 innings of work, while Chiefs starting pitcher Eric Jokisch pitched seven innings, giving up no runs and striking out five hitters. Both squads were held scoreless until the eighth inning. Elliot Soto got the Chiefs on the scoreboard in the eighth when he ripped a single past Ricky Alvarez down the third base line, bringing home Arismendy Alcantara.

Cedar Rapids answered in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring a run on a Marcus Nidiffer sacrifice fly to tie the ballgame at 1-1. David Harris led off the inning with a single, went to second base on a passed ball, went to third on a groundout by Brandon Decker, and scored on the sacrifice fly to center by Nidiffer.

Nidiffer came through in the clutch again in the bottom of the 10th inning, driving home Justin Bass to end the ballgame. Bass singled with one out and went to second on a walk by Harris before scoring the winning run.

The Kernels take an off day for Tuesday's MLB All Star Game. The Kernels continue the nine game home stand on Wednesday with three games against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, the Midwest League affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
