Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars' offense kept rolling on Monday night, scoring seven runs on 11 hits to lead the team to a 7-3 victory and a three-game sweep of the Burlington Bees at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars, who have a two-game lead for first place atop the Western Division after the win, picked up their third sweep of the season. They also have scored five-plus runs in a season-best six games in a row and have had 10-plus hits five times in that span.
The Cougars trailed, 1-0, in the second when they took a lead they never gave back. Cheslor Cuthbert scored on an error, and Kevin David singled home Geulin Beltre for a 2-1 advantage. Then Brett Eibner nailed a long two-run homer to left in the third off Josh Bowman (6-3), and after the Bees scored twice in the fourth, David doubled and later scored in the bottom half for a 5-3 score. The Cougars' final two runs came in the seventh, as Angel Franco poked an RBI triple and scored on a single by Eibner. Four Cougars had multiple hits in the contest.
Leonel Santiago (7-6), working on nine days rest, picked up the win. He gave up three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits over five innings with no walks and four strikeouts in the win. Mitch Hodge and Chase Boruff each tossed two scoreless innings to wrap it up. The Cougars finished the season 7-8 against Burlington (6-12, 52-36) and won five of the last six meetings.
The Cougars (13-5, 41-46) are off Tuesday and continue their nine-game home stand Wednesday night at 6:30 CT with the start of a three-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts (11-7, 49-36).
