South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Augusta, GA - Michael Neuvirth started just his second game as a member of the South Carolina Stingrays and stopped every shot he faced, en route to his first professional shutout and a 4-0 win for the Rays over the Augusta Lynx at james Brown Arena.

"I thought we played much better tonight than we did last night," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "We limited their chances early, and Neuvirth was strong on every opportunity they had."

In the first period Pierre-Luc O'Brien got his third goal of the season, his second in as many games, at 8:25 from Keith Johnson and Paul Kelly. Michael Dubuc got his team leading sixth goal of the season from Paul McIlveen and Travis Morin at 11:13 of the period.

The Stingrays continued to pour on the pressure in the second when Dubuc got his second goal of the night, and his seventh of the season, at 8:26. The goal was assisted by Maxime Lacroix and with it, Dubuc is now tied for second among rookies in goals scored.

In the third period, Steve Pinizzotto got his second goal of the season with the lone assist going to Scott Romfo. Pinizzotto avoided two chop block attempts and took an off balance shot passed Riku Helenius to make it 4-0.

The winning goaltender was Michael Neuvirth who stopped all 25 shots that he faced. The losing goaltender was Helenius who stopped 22 of the 26 shots that he faced. The Rays went 1-4 on the power play while killing off all five short handed situations they faced.

The Rays are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers. Game time will be at 7:00 P.M. with the pre-game show starting at 6:45.
