Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® defeated the Phoenix Roadrunners 6-2 Saturday night in front of 4,429 fans at the Orleans Arena. Right wing J.D. Watt scored three goals for his first pro hat trick. Watt played on a line with center Chris Ferraro (1g, 3a) and forward Tyler Mosienko (1g, 3a). The three combined for 12 points on the night and led the charge as Las Vegas scored four first period goals. Ferraro also tied a team record with a +5 rating. Goalie John DeCaro improved to 2-1-0 with 26 saves on the night. Forward Mike Hamilton also added a goal and an assist in the victory. Las Vegas improved to 4-1-0 at home this season. The Wranglers play in Bakersfield on Monday at 7:00 PM at Rabobank Arena.
Watt started the scoring early for Las Vegas, scoring his first goal of the night just 27-seconds into the contest for a 1-0 Wranglers lead. Phoenix countered to tie the game 1:17 later, defenseman Michael Wilson tallied on the power play to make it a 1-1 game. Las Vegas roared back with three unanswered goals by the end of the first period. Tyler Mosienko netted his second goal of the season at 6:54, giving the Wranglers a 2-1 lead. Watt connected for his second of the night at 12:50, increasing the Las Vegas lead to 3-1. At 18:31, Mike Hamilton tallied his second goal of the season for the 4-1 Wranglers lead.
After a scoreless second period, Las Vegas resumed the scoring at 7:08 in the third period. Chris Ferraro scored his fifth goal of the year to increase the Wranglers lead to 5-1. J.D. Watt capped off his hat trick at 14:08 for a 6-1 Las Vegas lead. A late goal by Phoenix defenseman Dane Crowley trimmed the Wranglers lead to 6-2.
Las Vegas will play in Bakersfield on Monday at 7:00 PM. The Wranglers return home to host Idaho on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM.
